Guild Charter of Mithril Web
“Friendship and Sacrifice”
Introduction:
Mithril Web has existed since early days of Everquest I, it has spread throughout many games, and it is quite possibly now the oldest guild on the Blackburrow server in Everquest II. “Friendship and Sacrifice” is our guild motto, and it has helped the guild threw both thick and thin. Our goal is to promote and provide a helpful and pleasant gaming environment for each other and ourselves, and to do everything possible to avoid the ‘game drama’. We’re all friends here. Our guild is a family type casual guild made up of mature, like minded adults.
The rest of this charter explains and lays out guild functions and guild policies that help us keep things organized and keep us on the right path.
1. Guild Conduct.
Guild text chat and voice chat should normally be a PG - PG13 atmosphere. We’re all adults here, and the occasional swear word’s going to come out, but please keep the bulk of them out of voice chat. If you are a parent and your children like to watch you play, and you’re concerned about that, please use headphones for the sound and keep you text ‘trash filter’ on and it will censor any perceived swear words. Text chat should also be kept pretty clean as well, though. This is all part of keeping a pleasant guild environment.
We should also always be trying to make our guild look good because that’s what attracts other good people. Please avoid kill stealing and loot hogging when out in the world of Norrath while you wear the Mithril Web guild tag. Diplomacy is always the best answer when dealing with contested mobs needed for quest updates, suppress the competitive urge to just grab it.
We should always be willing to help each other, but should also be patient when folks aren’t available to help. Some quest updates and group zones require special groups with specific classes and even gear to complete. In those instances it’s suggested that you use our events section on the message boards, personal tells, in-game mails, ect. to plan a night where you can get that update completed. If that doesn’t work then contact an officer and the guild leadership will do their best to help you from there. But whatever you do, don’t expect your guild mates to be mind readers, reach out to them and ask for help.
If something is bothering you in our guild, please come and tell an officer or the guild leader about it rather than throwing it into open guild chat. In most cases it’ll turn out to be a simple misunderstanding that be handled quietly and privately. This helps to avoid guild drama and will be appreciated by all.
Real life always comes first. If you’re having real life issues or problems, deal with those long before worrying about EQ2. Try and let the guild leadership know what’s become of you though, we are ‘the guild that cares’.
2. Account Sharing.
We currently do not allow persons in our guild to have alts in other guilds on the Blackburrow server. This is to keep recruiters and drama from other guilds from getting into our own. This can and will be checked periodically via the Sony Station. Those found to have an alt in another guild on the Blackburrow server will have one week to deguild their character(s) from the other guild or lose their Mithril Web guild tag. A repeat offense will mean automatic and permanent removal. This may seem harsh, but it keeps a sense of security in our guild. Those that are in this guild should want to be here.
Please avoid allowing friends and family members to use your account who are not members of Mithril Web and especially those who have accounts in other guilds. If a situation arises and you need to do so, make sure you discuss it with the guild leadership and something should be able to be worked out.
3. Group and Raiding Policies
Need before Greed should always be the answer to loot. Accidents will happen, please be understanding when they do. If there’s a dispute over loot after that then remember to get the guild leadership involved. There should never be any disputes over loot, though.
We are not a raiding guild, but when our number of active members allow it we can and will plan raid events for our guild members to attend. In order to roll on loot you must be the correct level to use the item and the appropriate class to use it. Trophies the we do not yet have in our guild hall will be looted by an officer and placed in the guild hall. Master spells either go to a character on the raid that can use it or end up in Mithril Web’s guild bank.
At the start of the raid you may declare that you are rolling for gear/items for another character on the same account, the class/level appropriate conditions still apply. By doing this you are forfeiting the right to initially roll on gear for the character you have brought with. If no one on the raid rolls on a piece of gear, those who are rolling for other characters may then roll on the item for the character they brought. After that if no one wants the item, those of a lower level on the raid may roll on it, and if need be it can be rolled on by raid members for alts on the same account. The reason we require heirloom items going to characters on the same account is to save time for raiding, since there’s no need to log in and out to bring the alt to the location to personally loot the item.
4. Guild Banks
Items in the guild banks are for full Mithril Web members only. Recruits cannot access what is in our banks and full members should not pull items out of the banks to give to recruits. Banks 1-3 are general access banks for the entire guild, bank 4 can only be accessed by the guild leadership.
Bank 1: If you would like to share any crafted items or rare collectables with your guild mates, this is the place to put them. Spells, armor and weapons, though, do not belong here. Food/Drink should be T8. We’re not trying to look any gift sokakars in the mouth here, but there’s very limited space in banks. A full set of Magmatic armor is also in here for the “A Thread of Hope” Heritage Quest, please remember to return it when you’re done with it so others can use it too.
Bank 2: This is where we keep all of our Adepts for which ever the current highest tier in the game is. For instance, if the highest level is 80, then all of the spells in this bank should be levels 70-80. Anything lower will be removed eventually and sold for guild funds by the officers.
Bank 3: This is our crafting bank. Rare tradeskill raws and crafting recipes go in here. Advanced and Enigma type recipe books and scrolls, like the adepts in bank 2, should be of the current highest tier. Tinkerer recipes and other special recipes are always welcome regardless of level. Rare harvests should be of the current highest tier, although T5 rare harvests are always welcome since they are used in the crafting epic. There are other rare crafting components throughout the game and they are welcome too, like Smoldering Reflective Shards.
Bank 4: This is our secured bank for legendary and fabled items of the highest current tier of the game along with some other rare items. Only members of the guild leadership can access it. If you’re a full member and need something in here, ask an officer you will more than likely get the item as long as it’s class/level appropriate.
5. Explanation of Ranks and Alts
Full guild members can have as many alts in the guild as they want, all of your characters will bear the same rank. Also, pick your favorite character’s name and remember to put it in your guild notes on the in game guild roster. This can be found by hitting ‘U’ on your keyboard and selecting the ‘members’ tab at the top. Find your character’s name and click the notes area beneath it, you may already find that an officer/recruiter has put a name in for you.
Ranks:
Guildleader: Leader of the Guild. At certain times more than one person may hold this title. Has the final say in all guild matters, but also has a duty and obligation to make sure the guild is going in a direction that the guild membership wants, unless that direction has gotten away from the spirit and purpose of our guild. You should always feel able to approach the guild leader for advice and help. The Guildleader should always remember that he/she is really a chief administrator and not ‘master and commander’.
Officer: These guild members help the Guildleader execute the various guild functions of Mithril Web. They are promoted on a need only basis from the Recruiter and Full Member ranks. Officers are chosen from the most trusted members of the guild, if you can’t find the Guildleader, an Officer should be able to help you.
Recruiter: These are the great folks who are setting aside some of their playtime to help the guild grow. The recruiters not only seek out and tag new members, but, along with the leadership, help those recruits settle in and become full members of the guild. This is voluntary rank, with the power to invite new members, but not promote them. You must be a full member of our guild for at least four months and pass an officer vote to obtain this rank. All officers and guildleaders are technically recruiters.
Member: These guys are the main core of the guild and bear the standard guild rank. All guild officers and leaders have come from the same rank at some point in time, and the future ones will do the same.
Inactive: Any guild member who has been inactive for more than 100 days will be demoted to the inactive list until they log back in again, at which time they will regain their Member rank. This helps us see who is available for crafting and adventuring on the guild roster.
Youngster: This rank is for the young children of parents and guardians who are also full guild members. It allows that child to be in Mithril Web. There is no vote until the child is old/mature enough to join in guild voice/text chat. Until then they have access to the guild hall and the bulk of it’s amenities, plus the ability to earn status points. They will not be able to use the banks or guild voice/text chat. This is more a way to allow parents/guardians to introduce a child to Everquest II and keep an eye on them and keep them away from the wrong crowd in a way that doesn’t disrupt the adult members of our guild. When bestowing this rank it is important that the parent/guardians name is noted in the Youngster’s guild notes.
Recruit: Those who bear this rank are hopefully the future of our guild. Full members and officers should take any chance they can to group with these guys and get to know them. More details on recruits can be found in the Guild Recruitment section below.
6. Recruitment System
Joining Mithril Web
In order to get a guild invite now recruits need to read this very charter first at
http://www.mithrilweb.com in the EQII Public section. Next time they talk to a recruiter/officer and claim to have read the guild charter, ask them for this confirmation phrase: “Our guild motto is Friendship and Sacrifice.” If you’re a prospective recruit and you’re are reading this then you will want to write that phrase down and/or remember it. Please be sure to read the rest of the charter, though, it still has a lot of useful information in it, especially the rest of this section.
Once they have done this, they will be invited to the guild under a recruit status if they are still interested. A recruit has six months to settle in and get to know his/her guildmates, and must remain a recruit for a minimum of one month. A short bio must be submitted during that time, which will be posted on our online message boards in our private recruitment forum.
The bio should be emailed to
BNBrossman@aol.com, it is required in order cast a recruit’s full membership vote. The bio should tell the guild what previous guilds you’ve been in, gaming experience, and what you hope to find in Mithril Web. Some personal interests are great to include as well. You do not need to give a street address, phone number, personal email address or real name. The bio is to help your new guildmates get to know you and hopefully connect early on.
To become a full member a recruit will be voted on by his/her prospective guildmates, the vote will last one week and will be posted in the recruitment section of our website. The available vote choices will be ‘yes’, ‘no’, and ‘abstain’. Voting abstain should only be done if you feel you’ve been actively playing and still haven’t gotten to know this recruit or are not sure about them yet.
A ‘no’ vote is considered a serious thing since it bars the recruit from full membership. Whoever casts the ‘no’ vote will need to tell the officers why before the poll’s completion, otherwise it will be considered a mistake and the voting poll will be restarted. The reason for the ‘no’ vote will be explained to the guild, but the person who cast that vote may remain anonymous.
In order for the vote to pass at least six votes need to have been cast and 2/3 of them must be yes votes. The recruit will decide when they would like to have their vote, but it must be completed before the six months are up. Family members of full guild members will be given additional time if needed and in some circumstances might be shuffled into the Youngster rank, regardless of age (this will be noted on the in-game guild roster) to prevent deguilding.
If a full guild member knows a recruit and would really like to see them in the guild, speak up! We call this sponsoring, and it really helps recruits get into the guild when they have someone to vouch for them. The sponsorship information will be placed in the recruit’s guild notes and message board post in our recruitment section.
Becoming a recruiter and what they do:
All officers are recruiters along with the guildleader. For a normal member to become an officially ranked recruiter they must have been a full guild member for at least four months and pass an officer vote. Recruiters will have the ability to invite new members to the guild, but not promote them. Recruits can have up to three alts in the guild and they need to be labeled with the recruit’s primary character in the guild roster right after being invited.
We should never ‘fish’ members from other guilds, aka directly approaching people about joining our guild. We do not recruit on the basis of gaming expertise or character class and/or gear. The members we’re looking for are mature adults that can get along well with others and are looking for a positive gaming environment.
There will never be quota set for new members per month. We should never be discouraged when recruits don't work out or don't make it into the guild. It's going to happen, don't be afraid to speak up if a recruit does or says something that bothered you. Please speak up when they do something good, it's why we have the post about them on our message boards. Hopefully any recruit reading this will understand and appreciate the time and work we put into finding the right people for our guild.
7. Guild Hall and it’s Amenities
Currently, Mithril Web has a Tier 3 guildhall. It’s located in Antonica and is the fortress island off the docks near the light house. Simply go to the docks near the lighthouse in Antonica and pan your pointer over the many mariner bells there until your pointer turns into a little house, that’s the bell you want to click. If this is your first visit to our guildhall make sure, right after you zone in, that you look to your immediate right. There will be a large white modern art sculpture that flashes when you move your pointer over it, double click it to get your “Call to Guildhall Ability”.
Decorating:
It takes 1500 items to decorate our guildhall and has taken many days worth of hours to decorate it . Please be sure to never hit the ‘Pack Contents All Contents’ button on the house menu. Even if you save the housing layout before doing this, it may not place the items back properly sized or even positioned. The saved housing layout system is still very new and cannot be trusted, so no ‘practical jokes’ with this, it will more than likely end up ruining all of the hard work that has gone into making our guildhall look good and will take months to repair.
Currently, we’re looking at obtaining one of each painting, book, plushy figurine, scroll, paper and tapestry in the game, it’s a never ending goal. Duplicates will be removed from the guildhall by various means, do not get offended, this is to make room for the items we don’t have a single version of yet. We need to avoid placing a lot of pets, they create lag and get in the way since they are free moving house items.
Upkeep:
A T3 guild hall takes quite a bit of bit of upkeep. Any donations to the escrow are welcome and much appreciated in the form of status points and coin. No one is required to do this. Doing writs and handing in status items does not apply status points to the guild hall. The status points that ‘goes towards the guild’ when you earn it instead goes towards leveling the guild, currently we are level 80 and cannot level. The only way to give status or coin to the guild hall is to manually click the front door or type /house and to use the upper tabs to bring up the escrow section. At the bottom you will find a deposit engine. Once again, big thank you to anyone who can help with this.
If the T3 guild hall becomes a major burden to upkeep for whatever reason, we will downgrade back down to a T1 guild hall. Amenities now move with a guild hall along with the escrow so we’d only lose 50 plat which will always be kept available in bank 4. I sincerely hope this will never happen, but it’s good for everyone to know the leadership does have a backup plan if things don’t go our way for whatever reason.

Please do not deposit rare harvests in here until the cache size is increased. This is a communal bin so we all share whatever is in it, thanks to the gatherer NPCs we have basically an unlimited supply. *Training Dummy Chest
Location: The Docks
What’s it for: It may seem odd that this would be in The Docks, but it is no error. These dummies can be used to activate the Jarsath Wastes hammer that will teleport you out to Jarsath Wastes zone. They can also be used to do parsing, and raise combat/spell skills. Simply right click the chest and choose take dummy, then find it in your inventory and click ‘use’ when you’re in the spot you want to fight it. Please remember to tear down the dummy when you’re done with it.

Other guildhall gadgets:
The Crafting Emporium has the Clipboard items placed throughout it, click these once you have a tradeskill writ quest and it will start the actual writ, this is very handy for rush orders. This room also has a full set of Crafting Tables supplied by your guildmates, and both the Deathfist Forge and Sootfoot Forge to make special armor.
Additional traveling items have been placed in the guild hall by our guildmates. They include a large black swirling portal to Skull Rock in Moors of Ykesha, and a large round carpet that will teleport you to the Shimmering Citadel from that DoF expansion. Also in The Docks area are a Pool of Tranquility, Spear of Marr and Peacock Staff that will give you one hour buffs, they will not stack.
All over the guild hall, but mostly in our library, are a host of scrolls, notes, papers and books that are loaded with the lore of Norrath. They tell the stories of the past and the present, a couple might even tell of the future.
8. Message Boards
http://www.mithrilweb.comThe founders of Mithril Web from Everquest 1 have been kind enough to allow us to use their online message boards, and they don’t even play our game (although some have joined us in the past). Please be respectful and polite to each other while using these boards, keep the language on a PG level, no inappropriate pictures or language.
If you are a full member and don’t have a message boards handle, get a hold of your guildleader (personal tell or ingame mail or email at
BNBrossman@aol.com) and arrange a time when both of you will be on. Your guildleader will then make it possible for you to apply for a boards handle. A rediculous amount of spammers were trying to infiltrate our website everyday with fake handles and it had to be turned off for the sanity of our administrators since an email is sent for each one.
9. Leaving Mithril Web
Whatever reason someone leaves our guild we need to be polite about it, they may not be permanently gone. On the flip side, those who leave need to understand some of their friends may be insulted or hurt by a person’s leaving. Just make sure you leave politely and quietly if you do, otherwise you will more than likely not be welcomed back. Before you do leave, make sure it’s really what you want. Selling your account is not a viable reason for leaving the guild and will lead to permanent dismissal.
10. Returning to Mithril Web
If you left on good terms you will be more than likely welcomed back into the guild. You will need to tell our leadership why you want to return. At least a month should pass before attempting to return, if you’ve been gone only for a few days there’s no point coming back only to find you’re still not happy here. An officer vote will be held, any no votes will disqualify the return of the player, at least two yes votes are required. In the event the yes votes are not met and there aren’t any no votes, you will have to rejoin through the recruitment system.
Leaving the guild a second time doesn’t work like the first. In order to return you must go threw the recruitment system regardless. If a person leaves our guild a third time then it’s permanent, it’s obvious they are not happy in our guild, never will be, and it’s time to say goodbye.
11. Closing:
More will probably be added to this document in the future, and it’s the guild leadership’s responsibility to inform the general membership about any changes made to it. Mithril Web has had a long and proud history, remember to uphold that legacy with your actions in the game.
